Rottnest Channel Swim 2012

What a fantastic day it was, not too hot, not too cold, not too flat, but not too rough – Almost perfect.

The race starts nice and early 5:45am for the first wave from Cottesloe beach and is a pretty straight course to Rottnest Island 19.7km. There is a ferry that takes 30mins, but the following Vladswim members decided to take the scenic route along with 145 odd other soloists.

In order of finishing – Justin H – 5:24:42, Kirsty T – 5:43:12, Tori G – 5:45:13, Damien S – 5:49:31, Chris B – 6:01:29, Wayne A – 6:02:55, Lawrence S – 6:10:04, Tamera L – 6:19:37, Alistair N – 6:20:36, Dennis O – 6:30:04, Marty F – 6:35:25, David O – 6:40:53, Rose L – 7:03:27, Penny O – 7:16:30and Ben Hutt – 7:32:43. The main thing is that everyone finished and finished well.

Our Duo of Iain and Talbot swam a not too shabby 4:37:09 and were 4thpair overall and 1stin their category.
The team of Simon, Mischee, Dom and Fiona swam a very good 5:49:04.

A PB for Lawrence, Tori and Penny (faster solo than in teams she’s done previously)

Goes to show, that the extra work they put in in the pool after the main squad had finished in the am and in the ocean on weekends practicing feeding and logistics paid off.
