In December we ran our 4th 2015
5km and 10km Swim Event from Chinaman’s beach. This year a record number of swimmers attended with over 150 people taking part.
The feedback about the swim organisation was very positive and we couldn’t be prouder.
I would like to thank our volunteers for all their help and all swimmers for their support in creating such a friendly atmosphere for the swim, which I think reflects the true spirit of our program.
Bondi Surf Club Members did a fantastic job providing safety support during the swim and were a huge help in keeping an eye on all swimmers and ensuring their safety throughout the course. Thank you
We had swimmers come from a variety of places in Australia.
Form Brisbane – we had Trent Grimsey group
From Wollongong – we had Lawrence Stubbs and his Thirroul swim Adventure swimmers
From Canberra – we had few swimmers including Pauline English who successfully finished her first 10km swim
and we received great thanks from Masters Swimmer from around Sydney and swimmers from Melbourne.
Sydney’s Four season swimmers came as well who did a 2.5km circuit of the swim as part of their training
We are thinking of adding this shorter 2.5km distance as an option this year!
The 10km swim event was dominated by the three fastest swimmers in open water:
• Trent Grimsey, who also holds the World record for the fastest crossing of the English Channel in 6h:58min, won in a time of 2:02
• Rowen Webb came second in 2:04
• Peter Thiel finished third time 2:10min
• Our very own Vladswim member r Scott Miers finished in a fantastic time of 2:17min to take 4th place
Congratulations go to all swimmers who completed this distance, including Eli Ball who completed the entire course doing Butterfly – Great swim Eli!
The 5km swim event was dominated by Vladswim member Emily Miers in a time of 1:07min, closely followed by Andy Dyson in 2nd place with a time of 1:08 min. Mark Houston took 3rd place in a time of 1:10
